Sample Description

Unifying two existing schools - a truly 'Comprehensive' new high school

Pawtucket Unified High School

City of Pawtucket, Pawtucket, Rhode Island

Jonathan Levi Architects, Director of Design and Prime/Executive Architect
with
DLR Group, Associated Architect

This new 2,100 student ‘comprehensive’ high school will blend the unique cultures of two existing schools, and provide a new clear path to these students’ future by allowing those pursuing Career and Technical Education (CTE) and their college-preparatory peers to collaborate, and enjoy equal standing.  Offering over 20 CTE programs as diverse as culinary, carpentry, automotive, filmmaking and forensics, the school will also provide state of the art facilities for drama, music, art and science.

The project will create a truly transformative, once-in-a-generation impact for the entire City.  When the AAA PawSox left this site in Pawtucket for Massachusetts, the city lost an important piece of its identity, and civic heart.  The new Unified High School will provide a new heart - a beacon of hope for the future, where its young adults can be educated in a safe, welcoming, beautiful building filled with natural light and visible learning.  The new school will be a symbol of the future of Pawtucket, and the new community spaces will help forge a new civic identity based on unification not just of the student body, but the community at large.
